In Hawaii, there are roughly 165,000 people who smoke regularly;
70% want to quit. Quitting is not easy, but studies show that tobacco
users are two to three times more likely to quit successfully if
they receive help (skills training, counseling, and medication,
such as nicotine replacement patches and gum).
Helping people quit using tobacco is part of the state’s
Tobacco Prevention Program including the operation of a free Hawaii
Tobacco quitline (1-800-QUIT-NOW, 1-800-784-8669).
In addition to the Quitline, both HMSA & Kaiser Permanente
provide cessation services. HMSA subscribers should call, Oahu
952-4432, Neighbor Islands toll free at 1-(888) 225-4122. Kaiser
subscribers, 1-(808) 432-2274. For a complete list of Tobacco
